Hongyan

BIOGRAPHY

Hongyan (b.1966, China) now lives and works in Beijing. She holds a master’s degree in microbiology, and began painting in 2013. Drawing from a dream-like, meditative formalism, Hongyan’s motifs are supported by celestial colors and gestures applied with gentle brushstrokes. The paintings emerge very quickly as if through a practice of mental exercise or gymnastics, gently refracting the essence of an idea or a spiritual intuition.

Her selected solo exhibitions included: My Shadow, Antenna-tenna, Shanghai (2024); Bill Cournoyer / The Meeting, Newyork, USA (2022); Above the sky, Balice Hertling, Paris, France (2019). Her work has been shown at Balice Hertling, Paris (2022); Meessen de Clercq, Brussels, Belgium (2020) and ART021, Shanghai (2019).
