News: Nancy Lupo at Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon
Nancy Lupo will be participating in an upcoming exhibition entitled “Los Angeles, A Fiction” at the Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon when it re-opens its doors to the public on March 8, 2017. The exhibition will feature 34 artists from Los Angeles and 84 authors, of various ages, each of whom construct and deconstruct the city in their work: artists and authors participating in the creation of a Fiction.
The work that will be presented, Parent and Parroting (2016), depicts a series of loose structures created using 28 under-sink bathroom storage racks, which Nancy configured into a “U” shaped structure where the 28 racks stand in for teeth in a closed human jaw. The racks encrusted with putty and cat litter, and filled with materials such as fruit, dental floss, animal chew toys, rose petals, chicken bones and chocolate. Lupo’s work has been described as “an extension of a West-coast based sculptural tradition that unites conceptual and material explorations of the American consumer culture.”
