Allison Katz

Allison Katz, born in 1980, currently lives and works in London, England. Her work engages with the complex and at times contradictory nature of contemporary artistic production, embracing the ambiguity of communication with a playful and inquiring touch that expands the conventional notion of an artist’s “signature style.” Katz’s work operates in a poetic space between mirror and mask, between revealing and concealing what is presented, calling attention to the multiple layers of consciousness that reside in a painting’s surface and subject.

Allison Katz studied fine arts at Concordia University in Montreal and received her MFA from Columbia University in New York. Her work has been featured in Fondation Carmignac, France (2021); Camden Art Center, London (solo; 2021); Nottingham Contemporary, Nottingham (solo; 2021); MANIFESTA 13, Marseille, France (2020); Modern Art, London (2020); Gió Marconi, Milan (solo; 2020, 2018, 2016); Torre Bonomo, Spoleto, Italy (solo; 2019); Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac, London (2019); Powerlong Museum, Shanghai (2019); Bonner Kunstverein, Germany (2019); Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2019); Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, Poland (2019); Oakville Galleries, Oakville, Canada (solo; 2018); MIT List Center for the Arts, Boston (solo; 2018); Mendes Wood, Brussels (2018); Tanya Leighton, Berlin (2018); Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool, UK (solo; 2018); Lisson Gallery, New York (2018); Billedrommet, Tønsberg, Norway (solo; 2017); Reading International at Munchees, Reading, UK (2017); Unclebrother, Hancock, New York (2017); Metro Pictures, New York (2017); Schloss, Oslo, Norway (2017); Tate St. Ives, St. Ives, UK (2017); The Approach, London (solo; 2016), among others.
