Hilo Chen

    BIOGRAPHY

    Hilo Chen (b.1942, Yilan) currently lives and works in New York. Chen is an internationally recognized photorealistic artist. In 1968, he was deeply impressed by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres’s The Valpinçon Bather in the Louvre, Paris, and turned from abstract representation to figurative painting. He began working on the “beach” series in 1970s, and has since established himself in New York alongside the master of photorealism Chuck Close.

    Hilo Chen’s works are featured in prestigious institutions including Solomon R. Guggenheiim Museum, San Jose Museum of Art, Newport Street Gallery, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, among others.
