Hou Yong shows his interest in some patterns of collages frequently seen in suburban areas of China. The main material of is electric furnace heating wire and heat-resistant furnace pan and an indirectly illuminating curvy wire. It may seem simple and abstract, but in fact the heat coming from 8000 watt power is quite dangerous. Hou has seen a practical yet eccentric way of floor heating — attaching the heating panels on the negative shape formed by the furnitures in the room, which may coincide with Hou’s creation related with space. Among the multiple social connotations of collages, Hou usually sees them with the same witness and helplessness people feel when they are faced with reality. This attitude is projected on the audience when they chuckle, after seeing the extra wires bent into characters “hehe” under the furnace.
